Long before supermarkets stocked exotic products, Byron Health foods recognized supplying quality tofu to cafes and health food stores as an untapped market opportunity in Byron Bay. So 1993, ‘Tofu Alex’ sprang into action, left the corporate rat race with a grand plan of wholesaling the best tofu available, but surfing more days each week than working.
Well, that only lasted a few months and today Byron Health foods distributes about three and a half thousand products, many exclusively, all exceptional quality and some completely innovative and unique. We support local business and continue to work with our supplier and customer base to identify new and exciting products.
We also recognize our responsibility to actively contribute to environmental health and sustainability. Since 2006, we have been reducing our ‘carbon footprint’. We operate hybrid vehicles and our refrigerated delivery trucks incorporate ‘eutectic plate’ technology which significantly reduces carbon emissions.
On the 5th of October 2011, Byron Health Foods received recognition for our contribution to outstanding business sustainability in the NSW Far North Coast region from the Office of Environment and Heritage. This achievement was awarded by Hon Don Page MP and Mayor Jan Barham on behalf of the NSW Government’s Energy Efficiency for small Business Program.
